Part of the gravel pits left over after motorway building, the complex of open water consists of:

Horton in the north 


Wraysbury in the south,


and a few sailing pits between. In winter the they are covered with wild fowl - the stars being smew and goosander but you can look forward to guest appearances of scaup and the odd diver.

The scrub area just west of Wraysbury pits (mentioned in the site guide - more info) is a good place to see the common warblers but is also the most reliable site in the county for grasshopper warbler
